A Faithful Citizenry: Catholics and Public Life

Faithful CitizenshipJoin Catholics throughout the Diocese of Sacramento preparing for the November '08 election. Register to vote, protect the definition of marriage, respect life, support social justice, speak out for global solidarity.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) in a statement entitled “Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States,” urges Catholics to be involved in public life and to use the values of their faith to shape their political choices. The statement is clear that it is not the purpose of the Church to tell Catholics who to vote for but rather that Catholics should look to the teachings of the Gospel and the moral and social teachings of the Church in order to help make informed choices in accordance with God’s truth.

As the November election nears, the following provides several links for Catholics to explore on issues of “Faithful Citizenship.”
