Pope Benedict XVI announced a "Year for Priests" from June 19, 2009 through June 19, 2010.  The special year also commemorates the 150th anniversary of the death of St. John Vianney, Cure of Ars and patron of parish priests. The Holy Father noted that the focus would be to encourage priests toward a deeper prayer life and a renewed effort toward the "spiritual perfection on which the effectiveness of their ministry primarily depends."

The Year for Priests invites all to consider the gift of the priesthood, and to pray for those who have answered the call to priestly vocations.

May they be spiritually strengthened in their mission to continue the ecclesial Tradition while serving Christ's flock.
