Vicar for Priests
The Vicar Episcopal for Priests is appointed by the Diocesan Bishop and also serves as Priests’ Personnel Director. He provides staff support to the Diocesan Bishop and to the Priests Personnel Board in the assignment of priests and other matters concerning priests. Diocesan Statutes, # 21
Priests Personnel Board
The Priests Personnel Board assists the Diocesan Bishop in his responsibility for giving pastoral assignments to priests. After consultation with the Board, and having heard their recommendations, the Diocesan Bishop alone makes the assignments of all priests. Diocesan Statutes, # 20
The Diocese of Sacramento has a Personnel Board composed of eight voting priests, seven elected by the priests and one appointed by the Diocesan Bishop.
Presbyteral Council/Council of Priests
The Presbyteral Council, consultative body to the Bishop, is established by decree of Canon Law and convoked by the Diocesan Bishop.
The purpose of the council is three-fold:
1. Work to promote fraternal unity, harmony and mutual support in the presbyterate.
2. Collaborate with the diocesan bishop in the governance of the diocese.
3. Be a forum for treating the questions presented to it by the diocesan bishop and for making proposals on pastoral matters to him. Presbyteral Council Constitution and By-Laws
The Diocese of Sacramento has a Council of Priests composed of representative membership elected by the priests and those appointed by the Bishop.
