CATECHIST MINISTRY DAY WORKSHOPS: September 26, 2009

Click here to view the Catechist Ministry Day webpage and to register.

Two of the many available workshops will focus specifically upon the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (see below for workshop descriptions).  Bring your entire RCIA Team!  There will be many other workshops that may be of interest, in addition to what is listed below.

RCIA: The Catechumenate
Imagine a parish whose catechumenal ministry initiates around 70 people a year through an R.C.I.A. process that takes in inquirers any day of the year, celebrates multiple Rites of Acceptance/Welcoming each year and has an ongoing year-round catechumenate. It’s a lot of work, but the R.C.I.A. Team at St. Joseph Parish in Modesto is a working model of how to do R.C.I.A. well. Come and learn how to successfully integrate a systematic catechesis with the pastoral demands of a year-round catechumenate. Your catechumenal process will never be the same again!

Presented by:
Dino Durando, M.A.
Director of Religous Education
St. Joseph Parish in Modesto, CA

Dino holds an M.A. in Theology & Christian Ministry as well as a Pontifical Certificate in Catechetics. He serves as an adjunct professor for the University of Sacramento and teaches for the Diocese of Oakland’s School for Pastoral Ministry. This past Easter, one of Dino’s catechumens, Heidi Sierras, was baptized by Pope Benedict XVI in Rome. Dino and his wife Cathy have 7 children and reside in Modesto, CA.

RCIA Inquiry: Evangelization and Precatechumenate
This workshop will focus on the essential elements of this first period of formation in the R.C.I.A. What happens when an inquirer comes to your parish? How does your “Inquiry” evangelize and prepare that inquirer for discipleship in Christ and the Catholic life? Why is ongoing inquiry key to the formation process and supported by the Rite and our bishop? There will be some time for questions and shared resources.

Presented by:
Members of the Diocesan R.C.I.A. Committee

Pam, Tony, Linda, René, and Joan have extensive experience in the RCIA process at St. Patrick in Grass Valley, Holy Spirit in Fairfield, Ss. Peter & Paul in Rocklin, and St. Mary in Sacramento, respectively.
