Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

GENERAL

Q:  What is this event?

A:  This Youth and Young Adult Conference is the Diocese of Sacramento’s 55th Annual Youth

Convention.  It was the idea of Bishop William Weigand to have an event for the young people in

the Diocese of Sacramento that was modeled after the vigil of World Youth Day (an international

celebration drawing millions of young Catholics from all over the world with the Pope).  The

theme for this Youth and Young Adult Conference is: “Can You Hear Me Now?”

Q:  What will happen at the Conference?  What is the schedule for the Conference?

A:  The Conference will have something for everyone!  There are speakers, workshops, vendors,

food, activities/games, music, an outdoor overnighter, and Mass celebrated by Bishop William

Weigand.  There are English and Spanish tracks.  Our Keynote Speakers are Pam Stenzel

(English) and Marissa Esparza (Spanish).  We have several Christian bands scheduled to perform

throughout the Conference, including Heros Die Trying and Stable Mindset, and are pleased to

welcome Spirit & Song recording artist Curtis Stephan as our musical headliner.  (Note: Click on

their links to sample their music.)

Q: Who can attend?  What are the ages of participants?

A:  The Conference is open to high school students (those entering grades 9-12) and their

chaperones as well as young adults (ages 18-30).

Q:  What is the policy for Chaperones?

A:  Diocesan policy requires 1 adult for every 8 participants for the entire Conference.  Chaperones

must be 25 years of age or older and be fingerprinted with the Diocese of Sacramento.

REGISTRATION

Q:  How do high school youth register for the Conference?

A:  Each Parish and Youth Minister was sent a Registration Packet.  Many parishes will be registering

teens as a group, so check with your parish Youth Ministry/Religious Education Office to see if

they are registering as a group.  If they ARE registering as a group, you can register with the

     parish.

Q:  What if my Parish IS NOT registering as a group?

A:  If your parish IS NOT registering as a group, high school students can still register, but must

have a chaperone.  Simply download and fill out the Registration Packet, including the Code of

Behavior, Youth Consent Form, and Adult Consent Form (for the Chaperone), and submit the

Registration form and fee to the Diocese of Sacramento.

Q:  How do Young Adults register?

A:  Young Adults can register as a group or individually.  Simply download and fill out the

Registration Packet, including the Code of Behavior and Adult Consent Form, and submit the

Registration form and fee to the Diocese of Sacramento.

LOCATION

Q:  When and where is the event going to be held?

A:  The Conference will take place at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville, CA.  It starts

on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 1:00 PM and ends Sunday, July 22, 2007 at 2:00 PM.

Q:  Can I come in-and-out of the event?

A:  There are no in-and-out privileges.  Youth needing to leave before the event is over must have a

note from their parent(s)/guardian(s) stating the time they will be picked-up and have informed

their chaperone prior to the conference.

Q:  Where am I sleeping?  Do I need to bring a tent, air mattress, sleeping bag?

A:  Separate sleeping areas in the fairgrounds have been designated for males and females.

The areas are large enclosed, open air spaces.  No tents are allowed.  You may bring a single,

easily inflated air mattress, sleeping bag and pillow.

Q:  Can anyone walk-in to the event?

A:  No.  This is a closed location and only those who have registered may attend.  Upon registration,

each participant will receive a name tag and a colored wrist band.  These are to be worn at all

times.  The color of the wrist band lets us know if you are a teen, young adult, and chaperone,

and will enable our volunteers/staff to help you get where you need to go.

COST

Q:  How much does it cost to participate in the Conference?

A:  The cost of the Conference is $15, but no one will be turned away from the Conference because

of financial limitations.  If you become aware of a teen who would like to attend but cannot afford

to do so, please check to see if there is money available from the parish or school.  If it is

impossible for the parish or school to cover the cost, please contact the Diocesan Youth and

Young Adult Ministry Office.  Partial and/or full scholarships to the Conference are available.

FOOD

Q:  What about food?

A:  During the dinner, participants have several options.  Outside food vendors have

been contracted to provide meals in the $5 to $6 range.  Choices include: Mexican food, Teriyaki

Bowls, Pizza, and Hamburgers.  Sodas, snacks (cotton candy, snow cones, etc.), and espresso

     beverages may also be purchased.

Special Note: Youth Coordinators may want to bring an ice chest with food and refreshments

for your youth to help cut down on the cost. Just a reminder no glass containers allowed on the

     premises.

OTHER

Q:  My question is not listed above…

A:  If you cannot find the answer to your question in the FAQs above, nor in the Registration Packet,

     please contact the Youth Office.
