Diocesan Assembly LogoDIOCESAN ASSEMBLY

The assembly was held at St. Isidore in Yuba City on October 13, 2008.

Purpose of the Day

The Bishops of Sacramento convened diocesan and parish leadership to dialogue with Young Catholic men & women about the Synod Pastoral Initiatives of Evangelization, Faith Formation, Vocations, and service so that together they could share the gospel.  The goal was to gather 250 young adults, 100 priests, and a number of other parish & diocesan leaders together.

Participation in the Day

It was a day full of energy and honesty.  A diverse group of young adults from all over the diocese was gathered, 194 young adults (age 18-39) and 174 parish and diocesan leaders.

What Participants Took Away From The Day

The highlight for both the young adults and the parish & diocesan leaders was the frank and open discussion around the tables, and the open microphone with the bishops.

People left with many new ideas for ministry for and with young adults.  Many left empowered to start something new in their parish or deanery.  A group from Shasta deanery spent the long ride home brainstorming and planning for new ministry opportunities in their parishes.  Less than a week after the event, the City deanery had planned a follow up meeting to gather a larger group of young adults for a “deanery assembly.”
