Bishop's Message
Once again, I thank the more than 22,000 Catholic families who pledged their generous support to the Preserving Our Past...Building Our Future diocesan capital campaign. Many have already completed payment on their pledge. Others are nearing full payment in the months ahead. Because of this generosity, Catholic education and formation, restoration of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, priests' retirement, programs for the poor, as well as the local parishes, have benefitted immensely from this five-year campaign.
You may not know that the vision for Building Our Future is reflected in the eight Pastoral Initiatives of our Third Diocesan Synod of 2004-2006. These priorities are the fruit of the prayer, discernment and deliberations of more than 400 delegates, three quarters of whom were laity. The capital campaign case statement touched on each of the pastoral initiatives brought forth from the Synod process.
These important Synod initiatives are a reminder of the Journey in Christ we have undertaken, thanks to the generous support of the families who have pledged and given their financial support.
