Members of St. Joseph Parish in Lincoln participated in a Mass and groundbreaking for a new church and parish center with Father Polycarpo Gumapo, pastor, and Bishop William K. Weigand presiding on May 25. Permanent deacons Kenneth Boone, Jesus Rodriguez and Roberto Ruiz also participated in the Mass.

The new church, to be completed next summer, will seat 1,000 people. The cost of the complete project is projected at $8 million. Contractor for the project is David Higgins and the architect is Paul Jeffrey.

Bishop Weigand, in addressing parishioners, spoke of the need to connect with the Lord through celebration of the Eucharist and the other sacraments. He reminded them that the new church and parish center would be the place where many generations of parishioners would come to “make a reconnection with the Lord.”

The Ferrari family donated the land for the new church and parish center, located on Oak Tree Lane. Three generations of the family were on hand at the celebration to receive gratitude from their fellow parishioners.

Project construction is expected to begin later in the summer or early in the fall, depending upon negotiations with the city of Lincoln.
