Staff and community members joined in an open house and blessing May 24 of a new facility for Northern Valley Catholic Social Service, located at Washington Plaza, 2400 Washington Ave. in Redding.

Auxiliary Bishop Richard J. Garcia blessed the new building, joined by Father Michael Kiernan, executive director of Catholic Charities of Sacramento.

The 50,000-square-foot facility, located off Park Marina Drive, represents “the beginning of a new era” for the 18-year-old agency, according to Jan Maurer Watkins, executive director. In the past, NVCSS has leased rental properties to house program operations and has moved its offices on multiple occasions to accommodate growth, she said.

Washington Plaza now houses the agency’s administrative offices and its Shasta County programs. Programs are also provided to serve families and individuals in Butte, Glenn, Tehama and Siskiyou counties.
