Seven new deacons ordained for diocese

In a joy-filled ceremony, Auxiliary Bishop Richard J. Garcia ordained seven seminarians to the transitional diaconate during a morning Mass May 29 in the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento. The seminarians are Matthew Blank, Giovanni Gamas, Derek LaBranch, Uriel Ojeda-Iniguez, Jovito Rata, Jose Rodriguez and George Snyder. The ordination marks their deeper commitment to the priesthood and the beginning of their final year of studies. The deacons are now charged with preaching and teaching the Gospel.
