More than 3,600 people participated as Bishops William K. Weigand and Richard J. Garcia presided March 11-12 at the Rite of Election, with three celebrations held at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento and one at St. Joseph Parish in Redding.

The bishops welcomed some 393 catechumens, who will be baptized at the Easter vigil, and 484 adult candidates, who will complete their Christian initiation at the same time. Some 232 children (catechumens and candidates) also were welcomed. The candidates and catechumens are from 67 parishes in the diocese.
