Several hundred Catholics from throughout the diocese joined together in worship Oct. 28 at St. Rose Parish in Sacramento as part of a multiethnic diocesan encounter, “Many Faces in God’s House.” Bishop William K. Weigand celebrated Mass with a homily given by Auxiliary Bishop Richard J. Garcia. Reflecting the mood of the country in the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, prayers were offered in various languages for the victims of the attacks, Pope John Paul II, government officials, different cultures, families and unity. A multilingual choir performed during the Mass and many who attended wore ethnic dress. Following Mass representatives from ethnic groups served a buffet dinner and entertainment featured a diversity of musicians, singers and dancers.
